Here are a few tips as we recommend, which basically also gets your mower ready for spring at the same time.
- Mower Clean Up
If you can avoid washing your mower with water and just blow it off with a leaf blower or air compressor, and scrape the deck, there is a less chance of loud bearings and pulley’s if you don’t use water. Plus, if your mower isn’t packed full of grass and leaves, it isn’t as inviting for pests to move in over the winter. - Engine Service
It’s always better if the mower sits in clean oil for the off season. So change both the engine oil and filter. If you have a single element air filter, it’s normally a yearly replacement. If you have an inner and outer air filter, unless the outer is plugged with lots of debris, you can just blow it out carefully with air and reuse. Never blow out the inner air filter – if that’s dirty, replace both inner and outer as a pair. - Blades
If your mower blades are in good shape, have them sharpened and balanced and reuse them. If not, replace with new blades. - Tires
Be sure to properly air your tires. - Battery Maintenance
We recommend a battery tender, or charging your battery a couple of times in the off season. Make sure battery connections and cable hardware are in clean condition. - Fuel Etiquette
Leave the fuel level in the tank low. That way you are topping off with more fresh fuel in the spring. You can use a fuel stabilizer; just be sure not to over treat. - Grease
Make sure you grease the unit at its grease points to help keep moisture out. - Pest Prevention
If you are storing in a place where you have rodents, put a few packets of poison in a couple places on the mower.
